LED ZEPPELIN, THIN LIZZY, FLEETWOOD MAC, BLACK SABBATH, FRANK OCEAN, KENDRICK LAMMAR, POWER TRIP, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, THE REPLACEMENTS, THOU, SISTERS OF MERCY, DEATH, TRUE WINDOW, PRIMITIVE MAN, YOB, GENOCIDE PACT, WHITE HILLS, D.O.C. CONCREALED BLADE, GAG, WEEDEATER, THE CURE, GUIDED BY VOICES, THE RADIO DEPT, GROUPER, VINCE STAPLES, DARK CASTLE, GRANITE MASK, BOY HARSHER, DRAA, GATEKEEPER, THE MELVIN’S, INSECT WARFARE, LOOK BACK AND LAUGH, LIMP WRIST, PRIMAR RIGHT, SPIRITUAL CRAMP, SEPTIC DEATH, ANGEL OLSEN, HIS HERO IS GONE…

ENGLISH VERSION

First, thanks for this opportunity to have an interview with you. I guess you’re very satisfied with your latest work Created in the Image of Suffering (2017). When I listen the LP for the first time I noticed a good musical work, with a lot of hard work behind it. Do you believe that this new record is the product of the musical perseverance from all the members of the band? Do you spend time listening music to find a particular sound?

First off, thank you.  Glad that you like the album and appreciate the kind words.  I feel like we’ve all been playing music for so long at this point that it kinda has to be a product of musical perseverance.  I’ve begun to lose track of people I’ve played with at this point which is kinda great because, to me, it means that I have all of those experiences to draw from when playing in this band and when writing music.  Lots of learning from mistakes and all that.

I, personally, spend a lot of time listening to new music to find inspiration.  I’m super super self critical when writing so I feel like if I listen to more music I won’t be drawing inspiration from too small a focus.  But on the other hand it kinda makes writing hard sometimes becuase you’ll spend a week listening to a new band/style of music and then realize that everything you’ve written in the past ten days just sounds like that.  It’s a balancing act and it helps so much that all of us have unique voices and perspectives that seems to compliment each other really well.

Which artists can you name as an influence?

This band is all over the place when if comes to bands that we draw  influence from.  I’ll just go off of some stuff that got played in the van on our last tour…LED ZEPPELIN, THIN LIZZY, FLEETWOOD MAC, BLACK SABBATH, FRANK OCEAN, KENDRICK LAMMAR, POWER TRIP, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, THE REPLACEMENTS, THOU, SISTERS OF MERCY, DEATH, TRUE WINDOW, PRIMITIVE MAN, YOB, GENOCIDE PACT, WHITE HILLS, D.O.C. CONCREALED BLADE, GAG, WEEDEATER, THE CURE, GUIDED BY VOICES, THE RADIO DEPT, GROUPER, VINCE STAPLES, DARK CASTLE, GRANITE MASK, BOY HARSHER, DRAA, GATEKEEPER, THE MELVIN’S, INSECT WARFARE, LOOK BACK AND LAUGH, LIMP WRIST, PRIMAR RIGHT, SPIRITUAL CRAMP, SEPTIC DEATH, ANGEL OLSEN, HIS HERO IS GONE… Just to name a few.

How do you feel after the release of Created in the Image of Suffering (2017) when you see the final work and you meditate about those years shaped into songs?

Its safe to say that we feel great about the release of Created In The Image Of Suffering (2017).  We have been getting some great reviews/feedback from friends and various music blogs that we admire quite a bit so thats been very rewarding.  We don’t meditate too much however i sometimes enjoy listening to a song on the record and try to remember how that song started out and where it ended up.  personally I feel it helps while trying to develop future ideas.

Did you have any feedback from your fans about the lyrics of your album? How do you see the fact that other people identifies with songs that are related with a very deep part of you?

I think that Kristina usually gets the bulk of people coming up her at our shows or sending her messages about the certain things on the record that they liked a lot or identified with.  But I did have an interaction with a fan in Dallas, Tx in which someone came up to me after our set telling me that the record made him cry and he loved it so much that he decided to play it for the kindergarten  class that he teaches.  That was really great to hear.  I have always believed that a message is intended to be universal so I always love hearing about all  the different  ways in which  our songs effect them.

What are the plans for 2017?

Plans for 2017 include our first European Tour starting April 8th in which we will be  supporting TRUE WINDOW, as well as some dates with Chelsea Wolfe. Playing a few festivals in the U.S. along with a few more short tours around the U.S. Then hopefully find some time to sit down and work on some new songs!
